The SeaLink Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival is a ‘must do’ on the South Australian event calendar and in February 2020 it was marked as the biggest event to take place on Kangaroo Island ever!
Each year the Cygnet River Racecourse comes alive with great country racing from Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th. The Thursday event is a casual affair, with the main race day, the Dudley Wines Kangaroo Island Cup, held on the Saturday. Punters dress up in true racing style and enjoy trackside entertainment, colourful marquees, fashions on the field competitions and an abundance of local Kangaroo Island food and wine.
We’ll also take in some of the stunning sights of Kangaroo Island and enjoy some of the fine local food and wine with an opportunity to stick around and explore the rest of Kangaroo Island.
Please Note – If coming from interstate, flights to Kangaroo Island are available on Qantas/Rex airlines.
PAYMENT – $200 Deposit due on booking, balance due 60 days before the tour begins.
On your early arrival in Adelaide, we will be transferred to the Cape Jarvis for the 2-hour ferry to Kangaroo Island. We’ll then make our way to our centrally located motel in Kingscote, Seaview Motel, for check-in and a freshen up. We’ll then head out for a nice local dinner and drinks to get to know each other.
After a relaxing morning, we head off to the opening day of the Kangaroo Island Cup Carnival at Cygnet River Racecourse. We’ll have a little marquee on the riverbank to soak up all the atmosphere of this relaxing days races with local food and wine.
Then we’ll kick onto the Official Kangaroo Island Cocktail Party with special guest speaker and a few drinks to get right into the Carnival atmospher.
After a busy first 48 hours, we’ll have a relaxing day to take in the beautiful scenery of Kangaroo Island. We’ll enjoy a little tour of the island and visit Kangaroo Island Spirits to try some of their Gin, then enjoy lunch and a few wines at Dudley Winery. Some stunning views from the deck to enjoy the summer weather before we head back to the hotel where the evening is free time for all.
Today is one of the highlights of the country South Australian racing calendar with the main race the Kangaroo Island Cup. We’ll be in the Long Lunch trackside marquee, this always ells out and is the place to be. Out ticket includes entry to the Racecourse, large grazing tables on arrival, a two-course lunch complemented by Dudley Wines and beer, with private betting facilities at your doorstep and a race-book. Watch the racing in style from the comfort of our marquee and enjoy the range of local food and beverages.
The races conclude around 6 pm and we then head back into Kingscote for a bit of a street party to cap off the Carnival weekend.
The tour concludes this morning after breakfast as we catch the Sealink Ferry back to Cape Jarvis and a return bus to Adelaide City or Airport.
