After years of client suggestions, and a Covid postponed 2021 trip, we’re finally visiting the Cairns Amateurs Racing Carnival, three days of fun, fashion, glamour, food and entertainment built around two days of horse racing in Cairns in early September each year.
What began as a small amateur meeting in 1959, designed to bring city and country together, has expanded over the years to become one of Australia’s premier spring horse racing carnivals. The Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club has become widely, and affectionately, known as “THE CAIRNS AMATEURS.” The beautiful mild September climate entices large crowds of locals as well as interstate visitors.
We’ll also visit the Great Barrier Reef Experience and enjoy the adventure of snorkelling, diving and sailing on the Great Barrier Reef with Passions of Paradise. The 25-metre high-performance catamaran sails from Cairns to two unique outer reef locations, where you can dive and snorkel with turtles, colourful fish and see an amazing variety of corals.
PAYMENT – $200 Deposit due on booking, balance due 60 days before the tour begins.
Make your way to the centrally located 5* Pullman Reef Hotel & Casino for check-in. After settling in, we’ll meet for welcome drinks before heading out for a nice local dinner to get to know each other.
After a relaxing morning, we head off for an amazing trip out on the Great Barrier Reef.

After a busy 48 hours to begin the tour, you have the day off to relax and explore more of Cairns. There is an opportunity to organise a rain forest tour, or just relax by the water with a cocktail.
In the evening we head to the President’s Welcome Cocktail Party which is the traditional opening event of the Cairns Amateurs. It is a combined Members, Sponsor’s and VIP function to officially kick start the celebrations of the Cairns Amateurs Carnival.
Held in the centre of the Tropical City of Cairns on the shore of the Cairns Esplanade at the Eastern Events Lawn opposite the Pier with stunning views across Trinity Inlet. Mingle with like-minded Cairns Amateurs enthusiasts whilst experiencing the Tropical Produce and Fresh Local Seafood on offer with live cooking stations and canapes.
Today is the first day of the two day Cairns Amateurs Carnival, we’re in the members. Cairns Amateurs Members can enjoy the Carnival in style in the re-invigorated exclusive Members Area under the shade of super marquees. This premium trackside location allows you constant access throughout the area and includes light buffet lunch, access to a premium bar (beverages not included) and live entertainment.
After the races, we’re off to the famous Gala Ball. Enjoy the entertainment and glamour of the North’s most prestigious event in a waterfront marquee on the Cairns Esplanade Eastern Events Lawn.
Indulge in a sumptuous 3-course dinner including seafood platters by the award-winning Ochre Restaurant, while enjoying premium beverages. Then dance the night away to a seamless assortment of colourful live music performances and a spectacular fireworks display.
Today is the last day of the two day Cairns Amateurs Carnival, and we’re again in the members. Cairns Amateurs Members can enjoy the Carnival in style in the re-invigorated exclusive Members Area under the shade of super marquees. This premium trackside location allows you constant access throughout the area and includes light buffet lunch, access to a premium bar (beverages not included) and live entertainment.
After the races we’ll head back to the hotel to relax after a massive few days, have a last drink or two before the week comes to an end.
The tour concludes this morning after breakfast as we all head home, hopefully with some great memories, a tan and a few winnings.
