11.30am – Meet with your guides Graham & Debbie Reid, owners/operators of Travel West, and board your chartered ATR72 flight at the Brisbane Domestic Terminal, Brisbane Airport bound for Birdsville!
1.00pm – Depart Brisbane – NB. Lunch is not included on the flight. Fly over the Darling Downs agricultural farmlands and into mulga country, near Charleville. Travel west over the Warrego, Paroo & Bulloo Rivers, Cooper Creek and the Diamantina River before arriving in Birdsville.
Along the way, Graham will provide comprehensive commentary about the western river systems that make up the Lake Eyre Basin and some other interesting history. Graham has extensive knowledge of southwest Queensland having spent many years operating small group tours to Birdsville, Innamincka, and the Corner Country as well as across the Simpson Desert.
Upon arrival you will be guided to ‘Tent City’, your accommodation for the next 3 nights. Showers and toilets are nearby the tents.
During your stay, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the atmosphere at the historic Birdsville Hotel.
Your package includes the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Birdsville Races Gala, the most glamorous event of race week, and provides a fantastic opportunity to dress up and experience outback hospitality in style. While watching the sunset over the track, raise vital funds in support of Queensland’s RFDS to continue their lifesaving mission. Live entertainment, special guests and an RFDS charity auction.
This event is from 6pm – 10.30pm and includes return transfers.
After a relaxing morning visiting the bakery for their famous camel pie, today is the first day of the 2-day race meeting at the Birdsville Racetrack.
