The SeaLink Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival is a ‘must-do’ on the South Australian event calendar and has become one of Kangaroo Island’s biggest annual events.
Each year, Cygnet River Racecourse comes alive with great country racing. The Thursday event offers a relaxed and casual atmosphere, while the main race day, the Dudley Wines Kangaroo Island Cup, takes place on Saturday. Punters embrace true racing style and enjoy trackside entertainment, colourful marquees, Fashions on the Field competitions and an abundance of local Kangaroo Island food and wine.
Beyond the racing, we’ll experience some of the stunning sights of Kangaroo Island and enjoy more of the region’s exceptional local food and wine. There will also be an opportunity to extend your stay and explore more of what Kangaroo Island has to offer.
Please note: We depart from Adelaide, with pickups available in the city and at Adelaide Airport on the way to the ferry.

Itinerary
Upon your arrival in Adelaide, we will meet around midday and embark on a comfortable private coach transfer to Cape Jarvis. From there, enjoy a scenic ferry ride to the stunning Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival, we’ll take a coach transfer to the centrally located Ozone Hotel in Kingscote for check-in and time to freshen up.
To end the day, we’ll gather for a delightful local dinner and drinks, offering the perfect opportunity to unwind and get to know your fellow travellers.
After a relaxed start to the morning, we’ll make our way to the opening day of the Kangaroo Island Cup Carnival at the picturesque Cygnet River Racecourse. Settle into our private marquee along the riverbank and take in the laid-back charm of country racing. Enjoy delicious local food, soak up the atmosphere, and get up close to the horses for a truly authentic experience. The evening is yours at leisure.
After an action-packed first 48 hours, we’ll take a relaxing day to soak in the stunning scenery of Kangaroo Island. Enjoy a scenic tour of the island, including a visit to Kangaroo Island Spirits to sample some of their gin, followed by lunch and a few wines at Dudley Winery. Take in the breathtaking views from the deck and enjoy the summer weather before returning to the hotel. In the evening, there’s the option to attend the Kangaroo Island Cup Calcutta at the Ozone Hotel, or simply enjoy free time to relax.
Today is one of the highlights of the South Australian country racing calendar, with the main race being the Kangaroo Island Cup. We’ll be in the Long Lunch trackside marquee, which always sells out and is the place to be. Our ticket includes entry to the racecourse, large grazing tables on arrival, a two-course lunch complemented by Dudley Wines and beer, with private betting facilities at your doorstep and a racebook. Watch the racing in style from the comfort of our marquee and enjoy a range of local food and beverages.
The races conclude around 6 pm, after which we head back to the Ozone Hotel for a few post-race drinks to cap off the Carnival.
The tour concludes this morning after breakfast as we catch the SeaLink ferry back to Cape Jarvis and a return coach to Adelaide city or airport. (Approximate arrival into central Adelaide 1:30 pm.
