Tour Details
The Warrnambool May Racing Carnival stands as one of Australia’s premier country racing highlights. We’ll be based in the stunning coastal town of Port Fairy, just 30 minutes from Warrnambool, with time to explore the local surrounds before heading trackside.
Hosted by the Warrnambool Racing Club, this three (3) day country racing carnival draws thousands of racing fans each year to witness Australasia’s leading jumps horses, experience the excitement of country racing at its best, enjoy the colour and style of autumn race fashion, and soak up the region’s renowned hospitality. The program features 23 flat races and 7 jumps races, headlined by the world-famous Grand Annual Steeplechase—first run in 1872 and still recognised as the longest and most prestigious of its kind in Australia. This is Australian grassroots racing at its very best!

Itinerary
After a relaxed morning, we’ll head to the Warrnambool Carnival Charity Lunch. This special event features racing personalities sharing their insights and tips for the exciting three days of racing ahead. Past guests have included well-known names such as Matt Hill, Charlotte Littlefield, Simon Wilde, and Shane Jackson. The lunch includes a two-course meal, with beverages available for purchase.
Upon returning to Port Fairy, the evening is yours to enjoy local hospitality, study the form, and prepare for a busy three days of racing.
We’ll be up and about early to get ready for the opening day of this iconic May Carnival, featuring the Brierly Steeplechase. We are located in The Lavish Luncheon Marquee with Three Course Meal and Beverage Package. One of the social highlights of the Carnival, this event will ensure you have a memorable day at the races with hundreds of like-minded punters. After a long day at the track, we all head back to Port Fairy for a quiet night, or we leave you to hit the pubs of Warrnambool if you’ve had a big win.
We’re back off to Warrnambool for the middle day of the carnival, highlighted by the Galleywood & Listed Wangoom Handicap, a speciality for the wet track sprinters. Today we’re located in a rails marquee today, great spot with trackside views, which includes hot and cold canapes through the day and a 6-hour beverage package. We’ll head back to Port Fairy for a few quiet drinks and get ready for a big final day tomorrow.
We’re back for the last day of the Carnival featuring the Grand Annual Steeplechase (5500m) and the Warrnambool Cup. This time we will be in the Moloney Dining Room, which includes a three-course luncheon and 6-hour beverage package. Once the races are finished, we will head back to Port Fairy and those that want to kick on for a drink or two to celebrate a massive few days.
After a huge week and hopefully, some winnings in our pockets, we will catch the train back to Melbourne before heading our separate ways after another great racing adventure.
