Itinerary
Upon arrival in Darwin, make your way to the centrally located Adina Apartment Hotel, situated in the heart of the Darwin Waterfront and just a short walk to the Darwin CBD. We’ll meet up for some welcome drinks to settle in before heading out for a lovely welcome dinner, to enjoy the warm weather, get to know everyone, and enjoy some local produce.
We can arrange extra nights’ accommodation if you wish to arrive early, attend the Wednesday races, or simply explore more of Darwin and the NT. As this is the busiest time of the season, we recommend requesting any extra nights as early as possible.
After a relaxing morning to walk in the glorious sunshine, we’re off to the Let’s Talk Racing Luncheon, a great way to kick-start Darwin Cup weekend.
We’re turning on the yarns, laughs, insights, and hospitality at the premier racing luncheon of the year – the 2027 Ladbrokes Let’s Talk Racing Luncheon!
The 2025 luncheon featured multiple Group 1 and Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Glen Boss, as well as recently retired superstar jockey Damien Oliver, who has won the most Group 1 races in Australia!
Your ticket includes a three-course alternate drop luncheon from 1 pm, and a four-hour beverage package from 12 pm, including beer, wine, and soft drinks, with a cash bar available for spirits.
The 2027 Magic Millions Darwin Tried Horse Sale will commence at the conclusion of the luncheon in the mounting yard, with the next crop of winners going under the hammer.
We’re up early to head down to the Darwin Turf Club for a stable visit and to watch the Cup horses go through their final paces. We’ll hear from a leading trainer to see how training is done in Darwin on the dirt and get the last word on all his runners across the weekend.
Next, we will head out on a crocodile-spotting cruise along the Adelaide River, skippered by our local wildlife expert.
Upon returning to the hotel, you have the rest of the day to relax by the pool or head out for a walk to explore Darwin at your own pace.
After a busy 48 hours, enjoy a lazy sleep-in and a swim in the pool, as we have a big afternoon and evening ahead! Luckily, the races don’t start until mid-afternoon. We kick off the weekend’s racing at Palmerston Sprint Day, with the big 1200m dash as the highlight of the day’s races. We have premium hospitality in The Public Grandstand with reserved tables, a three-course meal, a beverage package all afternoon, and a fantastic balcony overlooking the finish.
Then we get dressed up and head off to the amazing outdoor black-tie Gala Ball, where we’ll enjoy an unforgettable evening under the stars as the biggest social event on the Darwin calendar goes off in style. Red carpet arrival, three-course meal on reserved tables, premium beverage package, and exceptional entertainment await.
Today is a well-earned rest day after a massive Saturday. You may choose to relax by the pool, enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, explore the history of Darwin, or even take a day trip to Kakadu National Park.
In the early evening, we’ll set off on a stunning sunset dinner cruise, taking in the breathtaking Darwin sunset. A two-course dinner is included, with drinks available for purchase on board.
Note: For those keen to join in the fun, there’s the optional Darwin Cup Calcutta at Silks during the day, where you can try to secure a runner in the Cup.
After a relaxing morning, we’re back out to Fannie Bay Racecourse for the day we’ve all been waiting for—the Great Northern Darwin Cup, with over 20,000 people trackside for the $200,000 race on the best dirt track in Australia.
We’ll be located in The Public Grandstand with reserved tables, a three-course meal, and a beverage package all afternoon. This is the perfect spot to soak up the racing atmosphere and watch all the action unfold.
Our visit to Darwin finishes today as we make our way back down south and back into winter, hopefully with lots of great memories and some winnings in our pockets.
We can assist with extra nights’ accommodation and packages if you wish to stay up north longer and explore the amazing NT.
